Why should I consider Invisalign?

It seems that everyone has heard of "invisible" or "clear" braces. This orthodontic technique involves the use of a series of plastic aligners to realign your teeth instead of traditional metal braces. As implied, the thin, clear plastic that is used to fabricate the aligners make it difficult for them to be detected by anyone. As an added benefit, the fact that you can remove your appliances when you eat or brush your teeth can make this type of orthodontic treatment much more comfortable than traditional braces. This revolutionary appliance is called Invisalign.

The fact that the Invisalign invisible braces system involves the use of clear, removable orthodontic aligners rather than the fixed brackets and arch wires of traditional braces can make it an attractive alternative in a number of ways.

With these virtually invisible braces, it is the manner in which each clear removable aligner fits over your teeth that produces the forces needed to create desired tooth movements. Invisalign aligners should be worn around the clock except for those times when the patient is eating, drinking or brushing and flossing. For a person with normal habits, it is expected that they will be wearing their aligners around 22 hours per day. 

The removable nature of invisible braces makes achieving adequate oral home care (tooth brushing and flossing) much easier than when traditional braces are involved. Being able to regularly and adequately perform good oral home care can certainly help to minimize the risk of tooth decay and periodontal (gum disease) complications during their treatment.

Due to the nature Invisalign's manufacturing methodology, prior to the initiation of treatment a computerized three-dimensional simulation demonstrating the realignment of the patient's teeth is created. This simulation can be shared with you so you can see before treatment even begins the results that are anticipated.
